Visual artist / ecological artistic research
I was raised in the south of France, in a region where hunting is a way of life. When I asked a friend, "How can you shoot an animal?" he responded, " you claim to love nature, but you don't understand it. By spending time in the woods and hunting animals, I take part in the nature, you don't."
As my friend's example points out, the distinction between nature and culture is primarily a cultural idea. This separation allows us to shift from using natural resources to exploiting them. For example, my friend's hunting practices have more to do with use, whereas the bio-industry tends more towards exploitation.
The aim of my work is to encourage the public to reflect on this question. To this end, I develop research-based installations, objects and video essays.
This research is central to my practice as I collaborate with various species that I use as materials. To engage with these species in a responsible manner and prevent exploitation, I study them closely and seek collaborative methods.
In the last years, my work has been showcased at TENT (Rotterdam, NL) and the Goethe Institut Niederlande (Rotterdam, NL) and did get the attention of the Volkskrant. I have enjoyed collaborating with the Academy of Architecture (Amsterdam, NL) and Mediamatic (Amsterdam, NL).
In 2025, my work will be displayed at Galerie du Philosophe (Carla Bayle, FR), and Cacaofabriek (Helmond, NL).
